Hush Turbine - Frequently Asked Questions1. What models and sizes of turbines are available from Hush Wind Power? 1. What models and sizes of turbines are available from Hush Wind Power? 2. What is the power output of the two models? The power output of the 1.5m turbine is rated at 1kW and the power output of the 5.5m turbine is rated at 23kW. These ratings are calculated at a constant wind speed of 15m/s, that’s just over 50km/h. TOP A good way to think of the power output though is to think of your average house consumption. An all electric house (i.e. electric hot water and stove) has an averaged consumption of about 2kW and has an annual electricity consumption of about 5MWh, the bill in Queensland for example of around $890 (and set to climb!). A single 1.5m turbine would produce enough power with a 44c/kWhr generation tariff and an average production over the year of 0.6kW (5.2MWh) to turn the energy bills around, in fact the energy retailer will end up paying you aroud $1000 per year. TOP That’s a payback on installation in less than five years and a huge reduction in greenhouse gases being emitted from your household. 3. I’ve heard that wind turbines injure birds and disturb their environment. In some cases this may be true of the large wind turbines with three long blades that you may have seen in wind farms. The Hush turbine appears as a genuine obstacle to a bird as it presents as a solid object from all angles and there is no visible gap in the blades when the turbine is rotating so a bird is clearly able to see the turbine and navigate safely around just like a normal electricity pole. The Hush turbine is almost silent in its operation; therefore the ecosystem around the turbine is not disturbed in any way. Hush has not had a single recorded bird strike or affected wildlife incident recorded in any of its testing programs. TOP 4. What is the minimum wind that Hush turbines will operate in? The inventors and designers of the Hush turbine along with RMIT in Australia have expended a great deal of time and effort in ensuring that the turbine is the most efficient on the market. As a result the 1.5m turbine will turn and generate electricity at anything from 2m/s or higher and the 5m turbine 2.2m/s.TOP 5. Do you have a list of the specifications of the various Hush turbine models? You can find detailed specification on our website via our Specifications pages linked below. TOP 5.5m Turbine Specification 6. When will the turbines be available for order and what is the timeline for installation? Hush Wind Power Limited has now completed the first round of funding and is ready to take customer orders. We have a manufacturing base in position and are ready to start manufacturing. Please feel free to contact us on the Contact Us page. If you have already registered your interest in owning a Hush turbine one of our sales staff will be in contact with your shortly to obtain details of your order and advise of potential installation dates. Once your order has been successfully placed with Hush Wind Power you be required to place a deposit to the value of 50% of your order to secure your manufacturing position. Current forecast lead times for installation are 16 weeks from time of deposit.TOP 7. What current Installations do you have and can I view them? Hush Wind Power is now in the final stages of contract negotiation on a large scale installation at a factory on the outskirts of Melbourne. This will be the first retail installation of the Hush turbine now that the extensive testing program has been completed and our manufacturing base is in place. We will be installing our first customer turbines at a location on the outskirts of Melbourne. We will be continuously updating our website with photo’s and details of customer installations that will allow you to see what a great solution Hush turbines are to Australia’s need for renewable energy.TOP 8. Can I have a combined installation of both wind and solar power? Absolutely, in fact the two technologies go hand in hand and Hush Wind Power can offer you a solution to cover both needs in one installation or just a wind turbine installation to complement an existing solar installation. The inverter technology used in the Hush turbine installation is very similar to that which you would find in your average solar installation (small or large scale). This makes integration of the two systems and metering onto the grid a breeze.TOP 9. I have a special application that hasn’t been mentioned here, can you still assist me? The staff at Hush Wind Power are not only passionate about their jobs and the growth of renewable energy but also about tackling new projects on any scale. Feel free to contact us at any time via our Contact Us page and we will ensure that your questions are answered and a solution is provided. In the majority of circumstances we will be able to consult on site for you to ensure that your application is professionally catered for. We have a varying discipline of engineers, manufacturing and construction professionals working either on our team or in partnership with us so no job is to big or too small.TOP 10. Where are Hush turbines manufactured? The Hush turbine was invented and engineered right here in Australia and tested under Australian conditions.
